Are you savvy enough to detect which packaging and pills are fakes? Technology is making it hard to tell legitimate products from rip-offs, and we're not talking Gucci purses here. Here are two photos showing the small differences between authentic and counterfeit drugs that were intercepted in Canada and the U.S.

This is an example of a counterfeit of the human growth hormone drug Serostim.

The Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Protection Act was signed into law by President Bush on October 15, 2008.

It is a bill that gives the DEA a lot more power to enforce what had been fuzzy rules around who is and who isn't a legally-operating distributor of controlled substances -- drugs, medications.

There are hundreds of thousands of English websites advertising mail-order drugs to, primarily, Americans. They are based in the U.S., in Canada, the Caribbean, and all over Europe.

Some of these sites advertise in the little side-boxes on search engines, such as Yahoo and Google, and some send out spam-mail. (You know the ones: Discount Cialis! Cheap Viagra!)

Online pharmacies are run in "networks," which basically means that a whole bunch of web addresses (or URLs) point back to the same online shopping engine, and the same distributors.
